Hello Batchmates

I'm Manuel R. Cortez one of your batchmates. I'm hoping that this message will finally reach it's proper destination. I have tried connecting on this site long time ago but i hesitated to register because i am not sure whether some of you will still recognize me. Most of the members here are known to me maybe because you were my classmates during the first and second year or maybe on some extra curricular activities which i am involved in like MJP, Explorer (aspirant lang po), being active in basketball, baseball, Chess Club (with trifee) and of course being part of the Moog and the Wall. I was also the photographer of Mr. Vasquez (Adviser The Wall) and dakilang alalay ng Journalism Class.

I graduated in a nearby school Adamson University were i enrolled in a Civil Engineering course but graduated BSC Accounting. Affordability is the reason for downgrading my course. Just like Trifee i have been a working student throughout my college life. With God's grace and blessing i was able to passed the CPA Board exam and from that time on my carreer progressess. I am currently connected (for 27 years now) with Eternal Gardens Memorial Park.

I'm on my way home...about to turn off my computer. The urge to open Kapihan was stronger. sabi ko sa sarili ko...Hindi bale...kahit gutom na ako...food na rin ang messages dito. Food for thought nga lang. Sa isip na lang mabusog ha-ha-ha!!!
Ang una kong nabasa was Larry's forwarded jokes. Ang lakas ng tawa ko nung nabasa ko yung message mo Larry!!!. Nawala ang gutom ko. Kaya lang, narinig yata nung ibang ka-officemates ko yung tawa ko. Siguro akala nila...may bipolar disorder na ako. Maiinit ang ulo kanina tapos, humarap lang sa computer, tumawa na ng malakas. Hay naku...ibang klase talaga tayo. Alam natin kung ano ang level ng ating sense of humor.

Ngayon...hungry na talaga ako...I need to go home...It's 10:08 p.M. Promise...I'll be back on Monday...tomorrow kasi is a busy day for me. My daughter is coming home from the US. Siyempre walang katapusang bonding ulit. I may not have the chance to log in at home.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. Tamang tama itong site "AHS Starbatch Kapihan", i am really a coffee addict. I have been a coffee drinker since high school and it is part of my system already.

Ehris - thanks for the warm welcome, it's really very exciting to communicate again with old (why old?)... with our classmates, batchmates, friends and even schoolmates. Just like you I was able to reconnect lang last December 8, 2007 during the Batch Christmas Party and induction of the incoming officers (who are by the way very active). I was able to meet again batchmate Roel Pelagio (husband of Letty Pelagio), Thelma, Letty, Eleonor, Willie Bernabe, NOel Ruiz, Jun Papa, Fred Nicdao, Angel Soriano, Audie Amante and so many others of course Racquel Patena (who is actually celebrating her birthday that night). From that time on, I have been searching the internet... thanks to Madam Thelma who told me about the "Kamustahan and Kapihan".

Letty - thanks for all the effort and convincing power.

Larry - congratulations of putting up this site for our batchmates. this will really help us a lot in communicating with our batchmates, classmates and friends.

By the way, I have been covering and documenting our batch activities by taking pictures and videos. I am currently developing a site both for (You tube and Multiply). Also the Lechong Tinapay – so delicious, gustong gusto ko talaga ng fresh baked bread. Malamang natapos na ni Sir Joey Rizal ang pagbabasa ng published paper mo. This picture was taken onboard USS Constellation CV-64 – The Flagship of America. We are on the catwalk right outside the Captain’s at-sea cabin. We are at Tokyo Bay at the time, dropping off an E-2 Hawk Eye aircraft. We are just taking a brake at the time so we decide to go up the ‘island’ of the ship. That is my crew with my cool DivO.



Again, this picture was taken onboard the USS Constellation CV-64. We are on the flight deck having a cook out and a few beers. It is what we call ‘Steel Beach Picnic’ kasi alam mo na puro bakal ang nakikita namin sa araw araw maliban sa malawak na dagat – we had grilled steaks, burgers, hotdogs, and chicken. Compete with condiments, cake, cookies and chips.

Larry -> wow! Impressed & very happy si Mareng Anna sa bday card that you've posted for her! Fyi, I called her last night & asked her if she read already our bday greetings to her, she said not yet. Kaya hindi ko na naman siya tinantanan na she has to open our link & read for herself all our sincere greetings on her special day. Kita mo, she posted, aside sa nahihiya, siguro na-obliga because of me (I'm sure ok lang sa kanya iyon & game naman siya lalo pa nga that we knew each other & we're the best of friends/kumare pati

Ehris -> hope you're very much feeling ok na! Yes, June 16 ang pasukan of my kids & medyo complete na all their school needs, ilang books na lang ang hindi pa naidi-deliver sa school & few school supplies na may school seal. Anyhow, nalagyan ko na rin ng mga plastic covers their books (kasi yung mga spiral notebooks na napili ng mga kids ko ay may plastic cover nila), course my kids are helping me & they're excitied aside sa willingness sa pag-aayos ng mga school needs nila

Manny Cortez -> talagang masaya ako sa posting mo & I knew for a fact your eagerness to have coffee with us here, so let's continue to keep the ball rolling. I saw also the nice pictures you've posted in your new 'Multiply' link

Manny.Ace.Fresh -> nice to see the enlarged pictures you've posted, at least kitang-kita na namin in close-up your face, kaya nga lang napalaki naman yata ang pagkaka-post kaya naputol, anyhow, at least ok naman yung isa wherein you're having a picnic sa mga kasamahan mo. Same with my husband Roel, ganun din ang tawag nila kapag nagpi-picnic sila onboard the ship, he's in a tanker (VLCC - very large crude carrier), sa sobrang laki ng barko, parati lang silang nasa laot at sila ang tinatabihan/dinidikitan ng mga cargo ships to load & unload. Kaya talagang langit at tubig lang ang nakikita nila while their onboard, makakatapak lang sila sa lupa in case my service boat or they will be picked up by helicopter (that is kung may emergency or change crew). Ingat ka because you're in the war zone country

The 2008 Chicago Open Chess Tournament kicked off this Memorial Day Long Weekend with amost a thousand participants including numerous Grandmasters, International Masters, Fide Masters, and die-hard chess fans. Two Filipino Grandmasters are in the tournament: Mark Paragua and Darwyn Laylo. In the first three rounds, I won two games and lost one. This is a seven-round Swiss System tournament. I am currently staying at Westin Hotel (same place where the tournament is being held) along with my two chess friends.

Tapos nitong tournament ... drive ako to Reston, Virginia to check on my new job. Wish me luck!

Letty – Mabuti at na-download mo partially ang picture na post ko dito. I guess your RAM or processor is the issue or the internet connection kaya naputol ang picture. It depends kasi if you are using Broadband/Cable, DSL, Wireless, Dial Up or T1 connection ka. Thank you din sa mga patawa mo, nakaka-aliw sa boring sea of sand dunes out here. Seaman nga pala si Roel – so we are both sea-dogs. Nasa VLCC pala sya – konti lang ang crew nila. Whenever I am at sea – I am onboard an Aircraft Carrier (Nuclear or Fossil Fuel driven). There are about 5,000 personnel onboard doing all sorts of job. It is almost like a small city – there is a Post Office, several barbershops, several 7-11 stores, lots of dining facility, a library, a chapel, several gyms, escalators and a multitude of elevators - and a bowling alley and nite club - just kidding on the last two. Usually we get off by what we call ‘water taxi’ or helicopter or plane. The plane ride is the ultimate! Being catapulted into the air within 5 seconds, from 0 – to about 160 mph, the Roller Coasters at Magic Mountain on I-5 is nothing compared to that catapult ride on a Aircraft Carrier.

Of course aircraft carrier is very much bigger than any tankers at sea, imagine, as if parang nasa isang developed city rin kayo where everything you need ay nandoon ng lahat. Hi Larry, glad to hear from you again. I'm doing ok in my new job. It was not so long ago when I thought the world came to an end because I was at the crossroads of personal challenges. Time and of course faith in God helped me to bounce back. I am perfectly fine and I don't feel the hurt anymore everytime I think of my dad. I can only smile and wish him well for doing what's best while he was here on earth. My job is quite exciting. People here are so warm...they're ready for positive changes and I feel humbled that they trust me to help them manage change. Most of all....iba talaga kapag ang mission ng company is in sync with your personal mission. My current job now exists because we want to extend and enhance human lives. Very much aligned with mine. Doon nanggagaling yung ibang glow sa mukha ko ngayon. Hindi ako nagtatrabaho para sa kapitalistang pangangailan lang. Larry!!! ang galing galing mo naman at nakapag-issue ka ng isang article na may social relevance. Naku gustong-gusto ko yan. Saludo ako sa'yo!!

Sino bang makaka-isip na yung batch 77 sa Araullo high school na halos kung hindi mahiyain ay mga pasaway ay may kanya-kanyang buhay na at kung saan-saang mundo na ngayon nakatira. We only have one common denominator dear friends...we all came from humble beginnings. Let this trait of humility guide us every step of the way. Being humble also allows us to appreciate the small things...the more important things that matter...through deep appreciation of the blessings we've received over the years, we achieve a certain state of happiness..if we're happy...success becomes real...

Hello everyone - Larry, Letty, Freddie, Prislette, Thelma, Dodie, Ramir, Jaime, Trifee, Manny Ace, Manny Cortez, ATG Annabelle, musta na kayong lahat? Hope each of you are always in good spirit, good health and safe.

Thelma > hi, glad to know you remember me. Sayang nga anoh at hindi tayo talaga naging mag-classmate and barkada nung high school days natin. But i truly appreciate this opportunity na naging part ako ng Starbatch Kapihan and to get to know all of you again, this time, much better much deeper. Tama ka Thelma doon sa post mo na we all have a common denominator - yung humble beginnings nating lahat, yung keeping our feet firmly on the ground. Humility teaches us to be kind, to look back at all the graces we received in our lives and in return to do certain deeds that will inspire us and help others and by this we truly appreciate the real meaning of life...of happiness and what success means! Lahat tayo may pinagdaanang hardship in our lives, but we have a strong faith which guides us and teaches us along the way. Who would think na yung batch natin have come a long way.....bawat isa, may kanya-kanyang field of expertise, may kanya kanya talent and we never forget where we all came from.....somehow yun ang greatest gift i guess that our parents had given us, how we were molded and what we are now! Yun din ang greatest gift na we could teach our kids, to teach them humility and kindness and to appreciate the meaning of life, after all the whole life itself is a big mystery.

Ako nga pala, eto yung story namin ng husband ko : I met him way back in 1980 sa UE. Housemate sya ng girlfriend kong chinese who also studied dentistry in the Phils. Naging guinea pig pa nga nya ako noon when he was practising sa school sa UERM and after he graduated, we continued to exchange letters, and eventually got married in 1984. We moved to Hongkong for almost five years, doon i worked sa PCIBank HK branch, executive assistant ako ng bank president and i must admit, i had a very good life, wonderful moments while we're in HK. He came from a family of six boys (youngest sya) and when my eldest brother-in-law migrated here in Sydney in 1984, two years after, we were encouraged to apply too (due to 1997 issue of HK being handed over back to China). So Dec. 1988, we landed in Sydney and life began. I was able to work at one of the largest bank here (Westpac) and ended my career when i had my two boys in 1995. Naging stay home mum ako, it was such an experience kasi nga dito walang maid, ikaw lahat gagawa, i don't even have my own family with me, but i enjoyed being a mum (it took us ten years before we could have kids), siguro dahil sa stressed ng life, fast paced and a bit of medical problem. But eventually, we were blessed with 2 wonderful boys, now aged 12 and 13. Hindi ko ipagpapalit yung time i spent looking after my boys and saw how they've grown esp. ngayong teen-agers na sila. They are good/polite boys and syempre medyo strict kami sa kanila and we always remind them/teaches them humility and life itself. And i must say i'm really proud of them. I just worked part time now, sa bank ulit (Commonwealth Bank) and trying to enjoy whatever life have to offer me.
I am thankful and i must say i'm blessed with having a wonderful hubby. Hindi ko pa rin nakakalimutan na tumulong sa family ko sa Phils. That's how i keep my feet grounded - i always look back kung saan ako nanggaling and for me yun ang meaning ng happiness, ng success. Okay, sige timeup na, parang Maala-ala mo kaya ang story ko anoh? (ha ha). Ganyan yata ang nag-mamature, nagiging sentimental! ha ha). So, yan ang love story ni Ehris (yung other part, saka ko na lang kwento sa yo, pag nag-kita tayo personally kasi mas mahaba and mas dramatic yun Thelma (haha). Take care and regards. Dear Ehris...wonderful story!!! Your family pictures speak volumes of life's contentment and happiness. You are absolutely right. As long as we know our true north, happiness is not so hard to find. My true north is my family. I will drop everything in a heartbeat for my family's sake. I remember my mentor's advice when I was just a simple high school teacher..."Thelma...hinahangaan ang masipag at magaling makisama. Pero kung madali kang mamamatay dahil sa hirap na ibinigay mo para sa iyong trabaho, sa bandang huli magdadala ang mga kaopisina mo ng isang punpon na bulaklak...bibigyan ka nila ng malalim na buntong hininga...at sasabihing..sayang ka, Thelma...yung pamilya mo na tunay na nagmamahal sa'yo, kumusta na sila?" I don't think there will ever be a direct translation to english of such advice. It captured the very essence of differentiating what is important in our lives.

ayan ang importante it is quite hard to be working more, and enjoying it less, and dreading the time we tend to spend most days at our work place, naramdaman ko yan when I was in USA, kasi naman nasa ministerial work ako nag-secular kaya ang hirap. Tama ka Thelma, you took time to explore your current career choice and consider all of the other options life has to offer. Ultimately, we got to put more weight in our families ano? Our family should take priority 'cuz it is the reason why we work so why put too much sacrifices on work to the extent that our families suffer when we get sick!!! Ako din workaholic, it's only when I reached 40 when I fixed my priorities in life. And I realizxed na unahin si Lord, second ang family cuz if we prioritize the Lord, He will take care of everything!!!! It's a testimony!!!
